What’s better than one book nerd? A whole squad of them, of course! Considering many book nerds begin their book-nerdy lives flying solo—say, reading behind a tree during recess while the other kids are playing (cough cough, not that I did that or anything)—it is truly magnificent to find a book nerd squad of one’s own. While other friends might talk about TV shows or what’s trending on Twitter, your group gathers around the first person to devour the newest book in the Erlendur series. So, read on for ways to strengthen your nerd bond for life, and to celebrate what makes your squad its nerdy self.

At your next book nerd bash, have each nerd write the name of a well-known book character on a sticky note, and then stick the note on someone else’s head without showing that person what they wrote. Everyone then has to guess who they’ve got on their forehead by asking other people yes or no questions about their character. Try not to get too competitive about it (just kidding, go for the jugular).
Book Nerd Book Drive. Chances are there are some budding book nerds in your community who could use a few more books to read. Why not pay it forward by organizing a book drive for the next generation of book addicts? Think of all those earnest, bespectacled faces beaming up at you in gratitude while clutching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It’ll be epic.
Official Nerds Only Book Nerd Book Club. You say you’re a crew of book nerds, but do you even have a book club? Okay, okay, I know it’s embarrassing, but no one has to know you overlooked this one. Convene in a suitably literary secret meeting place, perhaps an underground torchlit cavern or the like, and get to work picking selections. What’s that? You want to meet in a coffee shop? Well yes, fine—I suppose that would also do.
Musical Nerds. This is just like musical chairs, except everybody puts a book on a chair before you play, and you read whichever book you land on. It’s up to you whether you make the chair-less person watch a movie instead, or whether you quiz them on their alleged complete reading of Infinite Jest.
Nerds Who Lunch. Plan a potluck featuring recipes inspired by books! It’s a great way to learn about new recipes and new reads. Plus, how can you go wrong combining eating and reading?
Nerd Diversity. Challenge each other to read books outside your respective comfort zones. Maybe you notice one friend never reads books written by women, and another only ever reads thrillers. Shake it up a bit and give each other some radical recommendations.
Nerd-cation. Has your squad been itching to plan a trip together? Resolve to nerdify your vacation by choosing a destination from a favorite book or just seeing all the literary sites in your chosen locale. Hemingway’s house in Key West, anyone?
Nerd Coup de Grâce. I warn you, book nerds, this #squadgoal is not for the faint of heart. It’s reserved only for true book nerds who are willing to place their nerdery above their dignity. To accomplish this, the ultimate book nerd #squadgoal, your squad must choose a book. Then, each squad member must dress up like a different character from the book. Finally, you all must meet…in public! I told you this wouldn’t be easy, nerds. After all, no one wants to run into their crush while dressed like Miss Havisham—but, in order to prove your squad is the book nerdiest of them all, sacrifices have to be made! That’s why they call them #squadgoals. Happy nerding, squads!
