Poured Over Turns ONE!
Share
Our podcast, Poured Over, is a show for readers who pore over details, obsess over sentences and ideas and stories and characters; readers who ask a lot of questions. This is the show for you if you’re looking for surprising riffs, candid conversations, more than a few laughs, and lots of great book recommendations from big name authors and authors on their way to being big names. (Kirkus Reviews and Lifehacker think we’re pretty nifty too.)
We launched the show with Maggie O’Farrell and Hamnet, her dreamy, intoxicating story of grief and love and Shakespeare, and a whole year later (with two to three episodes per week), we’re kicking off our second year riffing with David Levithan, author of the modern classic Boy Meets Boy, about writing the books he was looking for as a writer and as an editor.
To celebrate our first anniversary, we’re now releasing a video edition for every episode to B&N’s YouTube channel whenever we release the audio edition to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and more. (Tuesdays, Thursdays and occasional Saturdays). And you can find both at the same time, here on individual episode pages, starting with Katie Runde, author of The Shore, on Saturday, June 4th—in a conversation that includes some terrific guidance on jump-starting a writing career. Katie’s not the only guest to deliver inspiring craft talk on Poured Over. Sit down with Booker Prize winner Bernardine Evaristo, The Matrix: Resurrections screenwriters David Mitchell & Aleksandar Hemon, essayist and Dear Sugars podcast co-host Steve Almond, and Jami Attenberg, novelist, memoirist and founder of #1000wordsofsummer. Musicians John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats) and Michelle Zauner (Japanese Breakfast) and actors Viola Davis, Selma Blair and Nick Offerman riff on their creative processes, the books and writers they love, and more.
Laugh with Danielle Henderson, Casey McQuiston and Phoebe Robinson. Listen to Alix E. Harrow talk about witches in a world not unlike the Wild West, and Alice Hoffman talk about the beloved Owens family witches. Remix The Great Gastby with Nghi Vo, The Brothers Karamazov with Lan Samantha Chang, and Uncle Vanya with Gary Shtenygart.
Look long and hard and lovingly at who we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going with Pulitzer Prize winners Ayad Akhtar, Andrea Elliott, Anthony Doerr, Richard Powers, Colson Whitehead, Louise Erdrich, Elizabeth Strout, and Viet Thanh Nguyen along with Clint Smith, Eddie S. Glaude, Imani Perry, Wajahat Ali, Brené Brown, Matt Haig, Ashley C. Ford, Beth Macy, Honorée Fannone Jeffers and Poet Laureate of the United States Joy Harjo.
Celebrate story and the written word with bestselling authors like Isabel Allende, Emma Straub, Hanya Yanagihara, Tara Westover, Chang-rae Lee, Ruth Ozeki, Dana Schwartz, Laura Lippman, Louise Penny, Miranda Cowley Heller, Lauren Groff, Min Jin Lee, Naomi Novik, Xochitl Gonzalez, and more.
