Expressing themes of history and community through\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ea generational continuum, this exhibit is a natural fit for LVA, the oldest\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003evisual art organization in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCuratorially, the process was smooth and collaborative. We discussed\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eparameters for selecting members from the group's long history, and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eartists took the lead in choosing pieces that best represented them. Tom\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eguided many of the initial decisions and communication with the group, and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI coordinated the logistics through installation of more than 40 works. A few\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ereached out to share their ideas, and their insight was invaluable in shaping\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ea vision that truly reflects this community of artists.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt was no surprise that several artists pushed the boundaries of scale, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebringing a dynamic energy of self-expression. The Artists' Breakfast Group\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eis filled with artists of quality; a range of distinct personali ties who still\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eexperiment, take risks, and pursue discovery. The exhibition features several\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof its founding members, and the depth of invention is alive in the work of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethese septuagenarians as well as the younger generations that have joined\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ealong the way.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe history of LVA and the Artists Breakfast Group is interconnected. This\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003epoint is underlined by the fact that among the participating artists, two are\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eformer LVA Executive Directors, John Begley \u0026amp; C.J. Pressma. They each\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eshare a mission for the importance of community and fellowship among\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ecreatives. Performing arts demand collaboration, but most visual artists work\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ein some degree of isolation. While not exactly hermetic, the key moment of\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003ecreative inspiration typically occurs alone. Ultimately, the artist crafts their\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eidentity entirely on their own.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWhich gives us the essential truth of any group show, that a disparate\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003earrangement of work from a host of different inspirations must coexist\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003etogether in a space.
