The Miser

The aging and cantankerous Harpagon is hoarding every cent he can, making sure that his two children, Elise and Cleante, live under his oppressive control. Harpagon's daughter Elise has fallen in love with a handsome young fellow, Valere, who pretends to be a servant in the household, despite his noble birth. In a peculiar occurrence, both Cleante and Harpagon are pursuing the same woman, the beautiful Marianne. Meanwhile, scheming servants and various others are attempting to obtain Harpagon's money, much of which is buried. The convoluted plot eventually leads to a hilarious and pleasing conclusion.
