The Resurrectionist (Rachel Lawson's Gothic Magicians)

After a drunken car crash, Fred, a reaper saves his wife and himself-but he's too drunk to notice the reporter watching. The exposé that follows shatters his life. Outed as a reaper, he loses his throne as emperor of the universe. His people turn on him. Then, his wife is kidnapped. The ransom? Resurrect the dead wife of her abductor. But there's a catch: she's been gone for 20 years. Resurrection is impossible.
