The financial sector, with its mono-currency system, appears increasingly divorced from the productive sector and is not always well-served by the traditional banking mindset. This book provides new insights into the dynamics taking place in the wider financial system and suggests we are in the midst of a sixth Kondratieff cycle, or Information Revolution. The Changes, like the Industrial Revolution, are transforming fundamental physical and social structures. This book provides complementary and contrasting theoretical bases (from Marx to Hyek) for examining these changes, along with empirical examples, and identifies how serfdom to the mono-currency system can be broken within the Information Revolution. Activity by a range of non-banks, including technological, social and corporate entities, is well-placed to provide real competition to the traditional baking sector.
