The Monsters of Rookhaven

Enter a world of extraordinary monsters and dark secrets in this chilling yet thought-provoking middle grade fantasy from award-winning author Pádraig Kenny.

Mirabelle is part of a very unusual family. Between Uncle Bertram transforming into a ferocious grizzly bear and Aunt Eliza's body being made entirely of spiders, it's safe to say they are an extraordinary lot. To protect themselves from those who would do them harm, the family resides within the glamoured perimeter of Rookhaven Manor, hidden away from the human residents of Rookhaven Village.

A long-ago treaty keeps the peace between the monsters and the townspeople-in return for supplies, the monsters won't eat the villagers. But when two orphaned siblings, Jem and Tom, stumble upon a tear in the magical barrier and open a door meant to stay locked, they unwittingly put Mirabelle's family in grave danger. A monster has caught their scent, and his hunger for their kind knows no bounds.

Perfect for fans of Jonathan Auxier and Victoria Schwab, Pádraig Kenny's The Monsters of Rookhaven, stunningly illustrated by Edward Bettison, explores difference and empathy through the eyes of unforgettable characters in a story filled with magic, adventure, and gothic intrigue.
