Pictures of German Life in the XVIIth & XVIIIth Centuries: Book II

Gustav Freytag published "Bilder aus der deutschen Vergangenheit" (5 volumes, 1859-1867; "Pictures of German Life"). Gustav's "Pictures of German Life" is a matchless portrayal of Germany's entire past, illustrating the history and manners of Germany. This masterpiece combines careful historical study with an almost poetic style.
