From Eve Babitz, the celebrated author of Slow Days, Fast Company and Eve’s Hollywood and one of the defining literary voices of Los Angeles, comes L.A. Woman, a seductive novel about women, desire, and reinvention in Southern California.
Eve Babitz “is to prose what Chet Baker is to jazz” (Vanity Fair), and L.A. Woman is quintessential Babitz: sophisticated, seductive, funny, and unmistakably Los Angeles.
At its center are Sophie, a twenty-something blonde and former Jim Morrison groupie drifting through contemporary L.A., and Lola, a German immigrant who arrives in Hollywood in the 1920s and tears down Sunset Boulevard in a Pierce Arrow. Through their stories, and those of the women around them, Babitz captures a Los Angeles of high culture and low, youth and desire.
