The Place des Vosges, and other stories

This book contains fourteen short stories written in contrasting styles. The six 'Harry' stories look wistfully back at an idealised postwar Paris and a long-vanished New York. The eight 'Tryphena' stories are darker in tone, set in the England and Europe of more recent years. They are inspired by a more pessimistic view of relationships, as social rules become more formalised and life chances beome more restricted.
