Oh, how hard it is to do the right thing!
Follow the Analyst as he navigates the philosophical challenges, intellectual puzzles and growing mission creep of nominating kill/capture targets for Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan. Stay with the Analyst as he is brought into a highly classified, futuristic program that puts him front and center in watching his recommendations play out in real time, forced to confront the consequences of his too-clever-by-half methodologies. How will he change? Or will he?
Approved for public release by the US Department of Defense, A Less Vivid Future sits at the intersection of leadership and failure, of agency and structure: how hard it is to do the right thing, when the pressures in place are defining success in a way you know is fundamentally wrong.
In 2015, J. Edward Conway co-wrote the textbook for conducting intelligence analysis in combat zones; A Less Vivid Future is the fictional, conceptual challenge to the assumptions that underlie that work.
