Direct Air Capture technology does this by pulling in atmospheric air, then through a series of chemical reactions, extracts the carbon dioxide (CO2) from it while returning the rest of the air to the environment. This is what plants and trees do every day as they photosynthesize, except Direct Air Capture technology does it much faster, with a smaller land footprint, and delivers the carbon dioxide in a pure, compressed form that can then be stored underground or reused. The CO2 can be permanently stored in deep geological formations or used in the production of fuels, chemicals, building materials, and other products containing CO2.
This book explores the climate crisis, geoengineering, and a promising new technology backed by Bill Gates, among others, called direct air capture of carbon dioxide. It explains why we've made so little progress in dealing with the climate threat, and how that can change: Part of the answer will be to find ways to capture, recycle and reuse CO2.Direct Air Capture technology does this by pulling in atmospheric air, then through a series of chemical reactions, extracts the carbon dioxide (CO2) from it while returning the rest of the air to the environment.
