Four young people thrown together by danger. A journey across borders. And a fight to find their way home.
Tunji and Ekaete are Nigerian. Tamara and Adrian are Liberian. They are not friends when their paths cross. But when they are kidnapped in Lagos and taken across the border into the Republic of Benin, they suddenly find themselves facing the same frightening predicament.
Held captive by criminals involved in trafficking children across West Africa, the four gradually realize that their best chance of survival lies in one another. Forced to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, they begin to form an unlikely friendship.
As they try to outwit their captors, Tunji, Ekaete, Tamara and Adrian must draw on their individual strengths, courage and resourcefulness. What begins as a terrifying experience becomes a test not only of survival, but of cooperation, loyalty and the friendships forged under extraordinary circumstances.
The Fabulous Four is a fast-moving young adult adventure set in West Africa, combining suspense and danger with a story about resilience, trust and four young people discovering what they can accomplish together.
Written for readers ages 13-16, the novel brings contemporary African young people and settings to the centre of an adventure story while exploring serious issues, including kidnapping and child trafficking, through the experiences of young protagonists determined to find their way home.
Winner of the Matatu Prize for Children's Literature, The Fabulous Four has also been adopted for the teaching of literature by four Nigerian states and by Nigeria's National Examinations Council (NECO).
