THE MEMORIES WE COLLECT

Howard Berelson's fourth collection, The Memories We Collect, is a poignant reminder that memories can be preserved through words and images. His background as a children's book illustrator informs his strong visual sensibility, which comes through not only in the artwork but also in the language of his poems and prose. In some pieces, like "HAWK," the illustrations complement the text directly, while in others, such as "I'm on the hook for the kids," offer an alternate lens of interpretation. Much like memory itself, the writing and artwork often take the form of collage-layered, textured, and drawing together a multitude of impressions into a unified whole.
